About the Work

A work juxtaposing elements of evolutionary and mechanical engineering, exploring our relationship with nature—our eagerness to learn from it and our need to respect it rather than dominate it. The work’s title — a simple anagram of the word ‘hybrid’ plays to its organic-mechanical fusion. The sculpture is also a homage to Sir Frank Whittle the English aviation engineer and pilot who invented the jet engine. The first practical test of the jet engine took place on April 12, 1937. Whittle’s test site and works where based in Lutterworth, England where J J Walker worked as a graphic designer for a time and where he was inspired by this aviation visionary.
