About the Work
“Plenty/Twenty more fish in the sea is a striking, visceral work with the figure ecstatically inclined bearing tools and the fruits of the sea. A work that describes the raw energy of the hunter-gatherer instinct and questions how this primeval motivation has been modified in our modern food habits, commercialised/global production and societal protocols. Artists original: Sealed plaster, clay, wire, lead and gold leaf on black Marquina marble also available.”
Artist
British artist JJ Walker’s artwork presents a lavish, textured landscape of colour and narrative. His fresh, bold artworks are rich in symbolism and layered with social commentary, reflecting a deep fascination with the human condition—its highs and lows, complexities and contradictions. Though JJ tackles serious and often urgent themes, his art remains full of optimism. A sharp sense of humour, a strong social conscience, and a surreal perspective run through each piece, offering a uniquely uplifting take on contemporary issues. JJ works out of the legendary Barcelona atelier STUDIO 46. Contributing to the ongoing legacy of this iconic, artistic crucible where many of the most famous and influential artists of the 20th Century created artworks including Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Joseph Beuys, Victor Vasarely, Eduardo Chillida, Richard Hamilton, Marc Chagall and Louise Bourgeois. A life-long long career as a multi-disciplinary Designer and Creative Director for small bijou agencies, his own furniture design company and international corporations. JJ has left the politics and often slow mechanics of big business behind and concentrates on that which still drives him with an endless passion—the process of creating vivid, visceral and thought-provoking art.
