About the Work

“Ikigai unfolds through deep cerulean and indigo fields layered with gestural brushwork, where underlying textures subtly infer feminine curvature without fully resolving into figuration. Passages of white space interrupt the density of blue, introducing air, lightness, and moments of visual exhale within the composition’s emotional weight. Gold pigment and fragments of gold leaf move across the surface in intentionally imperfect lines, echoing the Japanese concept of Ikigai, a lived sense of purpose discovered through balance, devotion, and becoming rather than perfection. Created during a residency on Portobello Road, the work carries the rhythm of movement and reflection, where abstraction becomes a meditative space between presence and impermanence.
