Open Closure — a study in dualities and time. This piece started as a 4x8 ft expanse of gauze. I painted both sides so the banded colors travel entirely through the interior and wrap back onto the front, before building up the outer field with thick white oil paint. Then, I left it outside under the elements for a full year. Rain, sun, winter, and pine needles gave it an authentic weathered patina—collaborating directly with nature.
Jeffrey Terreson (b. 1955, Bedford, NY) attended the Columbus College of Art and Design on a full merit scholarship. Initially an illustrator, he shifted his focus entirely to painting, drawing inspiration from post-war contemporary artists, Eastern spirituality, and nature. His work, characterized by gestural layers of oil paint, is featured in over 150 private and corporate collections, including the United Nations and IBM.
