About the Work

“Touched by Gold 1 is part of a series of triptychs constructed from repurposed fabrics sourced from a former textile factory in Barcelona. Vintage ticking, traditionally used for mattress upholstery, establishes the foundation of the work and remains visible beneath the gilded fabric, retaining a trace of the original material. Gold leaf transforms repurposed textiles, altering their visual and material qualities while allowing the original fabric to remain present within the composition. The gilded fabric was folded, cut, manipulated and reconfigured into a repetitive structure that provides a counterpoint to the layered paper surface. The three panels are suspended from a repurposed metal construction pole, also gilded, extending this process of transformation beyond the textile itself.”
