Inspired by the Anglo-Saxon burial mounds at Sutton Hoo, this piece reflects the depression left by a Saxon longship. The work shares a geographic connection with the Woodbridge boatyard where a full-size replica of the 90’ vessel is currently being constructed—on the same site where my own classic boat was built in 1938.
Chris N Wood is a British painter whose work delves into the relationship between place, memory, and time through the observation of the natural world. Working from studios in Portsmouth and Suffolk, Wood's practice is deeply rooted in drawing, which informs his paintings that seek to convey the atmosphere and subtle changes of a place over time. He exhibits regularly in the south and east of England.
